Class 3 have been learning about WW2. They have really enjoyed this learning, especially creating their own gas masks and planes. They were delighted to be joined by Alan Crowe who brought many artefacts for them to explore.
Pupils in Years 4, 5 and 6 were invited to take part in the school round of the Urdd Cookery competition. They all did exceptionally well, and it was a very close race. They had to make a cold wrap. Next round will be to make a burger!
Class 3 took part in some First Aid training to learn the essential skills of how to save a life. Whilst we hope our pupils never have to use these skills, we were pleased to see them approach them so positively and seriously.
Class 3 have continued their development of the school gardening patch. They are really enjoying taking charge of their own areas, have been recycling bottles to make fences and even brought in items to plant into as part of the Urdd Eisteddfod.
Class 3 have been having fun using the new microbits we have received in school. They have been working out how to make a step counter among other things and have been making a weighing balance.
Pupils in Year 4, 5 and 6 were invited to attend a 3-day residential trip to Cardiff. They had a wonderful time and were extremely well behaved. The children dressed head to toe in red and explored lots of games and activities throughout the day. They also entered a competition to design their own red noses.
Class 3 have been learning all about coding. We have explored using the Lego Spike equipment and Spheros. We were even lucky enough to attend Reeco in Newtown to see how coding is used in a real workplace.
We were thrilled to have pupils represent us at the Newtown swimming gala.
Year 5 pupils were invited to attend a 4 day residential trip to Honeypot House. The focus for this trip was wellbeing. The children enjoyed a range of activities including swimming and a trip to the Ironworks. During this trip they developed a range of skills like independence, perseverance, confidence, creativity and collaboration.
Class 3 were delighted to be invited back to Ysgol Dyffryn-Trannon school. Pupils got to experience wheelchair rugby and got to practice their everyday Welsh language skills, whilst making new friends.
Class 3 were delighted to take part in an opera workshop where they got to learn about opera, listen to a professional singer, write their own words and join in with performing.
Class 3 took part in a Preparerobo workshop where they got to design and build their own robots, before programming them to search for and battle other robots. The children had a fantastic time and thoroughly enjoyed learning about coding.
Class 3 have thoroughly enjoyed their topic on the Ancient Egyptians. They have had opportunities to explore a range of artefacts and resources.
Class 2 and 3 had a fabulous morning visiting St Gwynogs Church in Llanwnog. They had opportunities to learn about the parts of the Church and its namesake St Gwynog, they sang along to the organ, looked at the graves, especially the grave of Caersws poet, John Ceiriog Hughes, they decorated pumpkins and even rang… Read more »
We were so proud of our Year 5 pupils who represented the school at Urdd football. They were extremely well behaved and showed great team spirit.
Following their residential trip in the spring term, Class 3 wanted to organise a school trip that would take into consideration the cost of living crisis and the money parents have already paid out this year. To celebrate the end of term, Class 3 enjoyed a water fight and welcomed a special visitor to the school site. We have some children with a passion for all things horse related in the class, so this was an extra special treat.
Julie Bennett from Maldwyn visited class 3 on the last week of term to discuss the importance of being safe when near open water. This was especially important going into the summer holidays as many children will be visiting the seaside or playing near the brook or river.
We have been so lucky to have the ‘Cook with Church’ team join us over the last 7 weeks for this after-school club. It has meant that the children have not only got to experience cooking a range of recipes and food items, but they have been able to join in with songs and listen… Read more »
The children have been learning about being healthy this term and have been particularly interested in learning about the impact of drugs, including alcohol, cigarettes and illegal drugs. They have been very interested in this subject and have asked some super sensible questions. PC Ainsworth visited to discuss and answer these questions for the children.
Year 5 and 6 attended the Multi-sports event in Llanidloes on Tuesday 27th June. They got to experience a wide range of activities and had a great day.
Our Year 5 and 6 pupils enjoyed a great day out at a cricket tournament in Llanidloes. They had a wonderful day and came third. Well done all.
Following our eco committee joining an event held in Newtown where organisations joined local children to tidy up, our class 3 pupils took part in their very own litter picking event in Caersws. The children in class 3 have begun their 10 weeks of music tuition. The children have been thoroughly enjoying using the instruments and are looking forward to learning more.
The pupils in class 3 had an amazing visit to Redridge outdoor centre. They stayed for a 3-day and 2-night trip and enjoyed a range of activities, from caving, kayaking, high ropes, orienteering and walking. Class 3 enjoyed a morning outside tending to the garden areas. They weeded, planted and even made signs and labels. We can’t wait to see our produce grow.
All pupils in years 3-6 took part in the Llanidloes cross country event. they were all amazing and performed super well. Those who succeeded and finished in the top 10, then went on to compete at Dolerw park. It was a wet day, but they all did a great job!
The children in class 3 have been working alongside pupils in Ysgol Dyffryn Trannon to develop their Welsh skills and form relationships. Recently we participated in a creative Easter project. The girls in Years 4, 5 and 6 were able to represent the school in an Urdd Football event on Tuesday 28th February. They tried so hard and were exceptionally well-behaved.
On the 15th March, Year 5 and 6 pupils with the support of our Friends of the School, visited Aberystwyth University’s annual science fair. They had an amazing morning visiting the various stands and completed the quiz that went alongside them. We are so lucky to benefit from visiting.
We are so proud of our class. They always roll up their sleeves and get stuck in to making the school grounds a happy and safe environment for us all.
Our Year 5 and 6 pupils had a morning out on Friday 10th February to participate in a cluster netball event. It is great to always see positive attitudes from our pupils and a good team spirit.
Class 3 had a visit from the transport policy to talk about train safety. This is such an important subject for our pupils to learn about as the railway goes right through the village of Caersws. They learnt all about how dangerous railways can be and about how we should behave when in their vicinity…. Read more »
